High Transmission Brewster Polarizers

The p-polarized ray passes with a large lateral displacement and therefore transcribes a cylinder when the polarizer is rotated. The s-polarized ray is reflected and is transmitted through a hole in the wall of the enclosure. Air spaced: high power handling. Only the transmitted ray has high polarization purity.

High Transmission Brewster Polarizers are designed for higher power applications. The incidence angle is Brewster cut which can provide transmission up to 98% in a wide range of wavelengths without coating. The polarizer can be made from Calcite and YVO4 crystals. In order to obtain high transmission over a wide range of wavelengths, the polarizers are not recommended for use for large acceptance angles, typically used within ±5°.

Note that the transmitted beam is laterally displaced. This means that the trajectory of the beam will describe a cylinder when the polarizer is rotated about its axis. Thus, the Brewster Polarizer is generally used in static applications.
